Arizona School District Implements 2.7 Megawatts of Solar Power

In a testament to the state's commitment to solar power technology, Arizona's Paradise Valley Unified School District announced this week it has completed the installation of nearly 2.7-megawatts worth of solar panel systems at school grounds.

According to executives from Solon Corp, which manufactures and installs solar modules and performed the installations, the company supplied and installed the solar panel systems at the schools throughout the district. In fact, all of the solar panels used in construction were manufactured in the state at the company's production facility.

In total, four schools received the solar panel systems, with North Canyon high school implementing the most expansive system, capable of producing 973 megawatts worth of clean energy. The photovoltaic systems are all activated and the schools are now generating a portion of their own electricity with them.

Solon's general manager of North American operations, Dan Alcombright, affirmed that the solar panel systems would help relieve the state's electric grid and cut greenhouse gas emissions - all while saving the schools money.

"Through these projects, SOLON is helping PV Schools achieve renewable energy standards, offering clean, solar energy to offset peak load demands during optimal daylight hours," Alcombright said in a statement. "And by offering a solar service agreement to the district, SOLON made ‘going solar’ more affordable and viable."
