Orange County, California has three solar projects on the horizon, all operated by an arm of the Chevron Corporation.
Over the lifetime of Chevron Energy Solutions' projects, the one municipality and two school districts project to save more than $40 million, according to TradingMarkets.com. The projects include improvements to energy efficiency and more than 3-megawatts-worth of solar power generation.
"We are pleased that our collaboration with the City of Brea and two school districts in Orange County are delivering energy savings and reducing carbon emissions through energy efficiency improvements and the use of renewable power," said Jim Davis, Chevron Energy Solutions president.
The three government entities - the City of Brea and its 1.8 megawatt solar system, the Huntington Beach City School District and its 615 kilowatt solar system, and Santa Ana Unified School District and its 809 kilowatt solar photovoltaic electrical generation system - will benefit as Chevron builds, installs and maintains the improvements.
The projects will reduce more than 88,000 metric tons of carbon emissions. Energy generated by the Huntington Beach project will exceed 30 percent of the district's electricity demand.
