Department of Energy Launches New Energy Blog

Last week, the Department of Energy launched its new blog, entitled EnergyBlog. The Department said that the new blog was part of a continuing "commitment to achieving the level of transparency, engagement and accessibility that you should expect from your government."

Over the past week, the blog has featured stories about promising technologies, stories about clean energy and announcements of new initiatives. Among these was an announcement of a new program called Energy Innovation Hubs, which the department says are modeled on transformative engineering programs like the Manhattan Project and Bell Laboratories.

The first such hub will be established at the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis at the California Institute of Technology, working with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and other California institutions, the department said.

The primary goal of the project is to find a way to convert solar energy directly into fuel. California's solar installations have already made it far and away the national leader in solar energy and innovation, and now the state looks poised to push solar technology forward in more new and exciting ways.
