Power Integrations (NASDAQ: POWI), the leading maker of high-voltage integrated circuits for power conversion, switched on a 600-kilowatt solar array at its headquarters in San Jose, California. The solar installation will provide 100 percent of the power for one of the firms' two buildings, while simultaneously shading the facility's parking lot with 2,500 solar panels.
"Power Integrations is a great example of how Silicon Valley companies are embracing clean tech innovation," said Chuck Reed, the mayor of San Jose. "Between the company's own line of energy-efficient products and its expansive new solar installation, Power Integrations is playing a key role in helping San Jose achieve its Green Vision goals."
Power Integrations is in the green technology industry itself, providing analog integrated circuits which are integral to compact, energy-efficient power supply units. Standby power and energy conversion inefficiency waste a huge amount of energy every year, and Power Integrations will now be able to provide its solutions with power from a renewable source.
In California, solar installations make a great deal of sense for both businesses and homeowners. Clear skies and the blazing sun provide the energy, while incentives and rebates provide the impetus to go green with solar power.
