Logistics company ProLogis is partnering with Southern California Edison to install approximately 100 megawatts of solar power, separate releases say.
The company and the utility announced Monday that ProLogis - which operates warehouses and distribution facilities across California - would be providing rooftop space for SCE's 250-megawatt solar project in the southern part of the state. About 40 percent of the total installed wattage will be sited on ProLogis facilities, the utility noted.
"We are pleased to expand this relationship with a company that shares our vision for converting otherwise unused urban rooftop real estate into solar power stations," SCE president John Fielder said.
The partnership is a win for both organizations, ProLogis vice president for renewable energy Drew Torbin added. "We have flat, available roof space and local construction management expertise in place to support the growth of SCE's renewable energy program," he noted.
With SCE using its rooftops, ProLogis will more than quintuple its current installed solar capacity. At present, the company has about 25 megawatts of solar power installed at facilities around the world.
