Abound Solar, a thin-film solar module manufacturer from Loveland, Colorado, is working with seven other companies to reduce the cost of producing solar equipment.
The move should benefit consumers and commercial buyers, for whom solar power can be expensive. Many states - including Colorado - provide subsidies or rebates for solar arrays; some places offer low-cost financing for renewable-energy equipment. But lower solar installation costs will be welcome.
Abound is collaborating with a variety of mounting-equipment and electrical-conversion companies to lower the total cost of going solar. The companies include Northern States Metals, which makes ground- and roof-mounting racks for panels; REFU Solar Electronics, a German company that builds solar inverters; and SunLink, which provides scalable solar module mounting systems.
"The marketing partnership," Abound said, "will allow each company to better coordinate their product development, marketing and sales efforts, while optimizing their products to improve performance, reduce costs, and/or increase system reliability."
Partnerships like this one have worked well in the auto industry, where automakers that work closely with suppliers have better business relationships and higher-quality products. Soon, solar shoppers in Colorado and elsewhere will be able to reap the benefits of the Abound Alliance.
