Federal Stimulus Funds 46 Massachusetts Solar Projects
Tuesday, July 6th 2010 1:00 PM
By GetSolar Staff.
This week, Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Ian Bowles announced the second round of energy funding awards, which will funnel $4 million to 46 projects around the state. The money comes to Massachusetts via the Department of Energy Resources under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), better known as the stimulus package.

The largest award totals $162,320 and will go towards a 200-kilowatt solar installation in Middleborough. All told, this round of funding will pay for the installation of 3.8 megawatts of solar power, bringing the total amount of new capacity paid for by the Commonwealth Solar Stimulus to 7.8 megawatts.

Governor Deval Patrick's administration aims to have 60 megawatts of solar capacity up and running by the end of 2010. According to the administration, efforts to ramp up solar installation and research in the state have quadrupled the number of solar contractors and subcontractors in the past two years, to a total of around 200.

Now that this second round of awards is complete, Massachusetts has spent all of the $8 million allocated to it in the stimulus by the State Energy Program.ADNFCR-3324-ID-19872586-ADNFCR
