A Massachusetts solar panel company has announced a new product aimed specifically toward customers living in coastal climates.
According to Evergreen Solar, its ES-A series solar panels are now one of the few products in the solar energy industry specifically certified for use in coastal climates, where salt air and other natural factors can affect the production and lifespan of such products.
"These panels are already certified for use in climates which have heavy snow or high winds. We are now proud to have one of the few solar panels available in the industry with IEC 61701 certification. This feature is extremely beneficial for customers in regions where sea mist can be an issue like Spain, Italy, France and the coastal regions of the United States," said Evergreen Solar executive Scott Gish.
The panels in question withstood corrosion testing in a concentrated salt solution for at least 96 hours with no mechanical deterioration detected.
Evergreen also reports that its proprietary wafer manufacturing technology results in virtually no wasted silicon with a carbon footprint that can be 30 percent lower than some competing solar panels.
