Trina Solar to Partner with MIT Industrial Program
Monday, August 2nd 2010 4:43 PM
By GetSolar Staff.
Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL), a major Chinese solar panel manufacturer, announced last week that it will join forces with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in a world-spanning partnership.

Under the "Industrial Liaison Program" agreement, Trina Solar will gain access to MIT and its research and development resources, with the potential for direct collaboration between its researchers and MIT's.

"Trina Solar and MIT share the same commitment to developing high quality solar electricity solutions for businesses and households worldwide and the Industrial Liaison Program is a great way to bring together top minds in the industry to help drive innovation," said Jifan Gao, chairman and chief executive officer of Trina.

The company's relatively low-cost solar modules have made it competitive in both the U.S. and European markets, with the company's modules being used by a number of high-profile institutions, including a Rutgers, New Jersey solar installation.

Cutting per-watt costs and improving manufacturing efficiency will be key for all solar firms going forwards, and partnering with MIT could give Trina an edge in that field.
