Public Service Electric and Gas Company, New Jersey's oldest and largest public utility, began construction Thursday on a Trenton, New Jersey solar installation. Comprising almost 5,500 solar panels, the array will generate enough clean, renewable energy to power 207 homes.
In total, PSE&G is investing over $750 million to build New Jersey's solar infrastructure. The project is part of the utility's Solar 4 All program, which will develop over 20 New Jersey solar installations this year, including 4 major ground-mounted solar farms.
The other three facilities are located in Hamilton, Linden and Edison, New Jersey. The project in Hamilton is the state's largest solar farm at 4.4 megawatts of capacity.
"Clean energy investments are key to a sustainable future. In addition to being good for the environment, these investments are creating jobs and help New Jersey to build a new, green sector," said Al Matos, vice president of Renewables and Energy Solutions at PSE&G.
In total, the Solar 4 All program is expected to develop 30 megawatts of solar panel capacity in 2010, eliminating 23,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
