One way of making a building, in particular an office block, more green is to 'green' the roof. This can provide a wildlife habitat, or space for a garden, and will reduce the urban 'heat island' effect. Research suggests that it will be more than compatible with solar panels on frames. There is a short piece about this on the SolarUK blog - http://solarukweblog.wordpress.com/2009/11/03/high-level-gardening/.

The UK Government is showing signs of encouraging the takeup of microgeneration by giving homeowners the chance to benefit from a feed-in tariff from next April. Here is some information on photovoltaics: http://www.solaruk.com/solarimages/solar%20electric%20pv.asp

Solar hot water doesn't come under the feed-in tariff scheme yet, but it is meanwhile looking more and more cost effective when compared to the rising price of fossil fuels (particularly an advanced, efficient system such as the UK-designed LaZer2).
