Among states that legislate to encourage demand for solar power and solar energy technologies, New York has been a leader for several years. The market looks promising enough that a new solar-energy business will soon come to the Hudson Valley.
Congressman Maurice Hinchey on Monday said the new firm will be the newest member of the The Solar Energy Consortium (TSEC), a non-profit organization that promotes solar power and funds research with the aim of reducing panel costs. Hinchey has helped fund the organization, last year securing nearly $12 million. The consortium was set up in 2007.
Speaking on Monday, the Congressman hinted that the news would mean “a new company, and new jobs, that go above the 200 that we have already created and they will be in the context of the 1,000 we’re estimating over the next few years.”
Hinchey added that a formal announcement, with full details, depends on the state. He also said he expects TSEC to receive additional federal funding in the future, this in addition to the most recent disbursement last October.
