Don’t panic! Solar rebates in New York are coming back very soon.
New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) paused New York’s solar PV incentive program unexpectedly . Despite initial worries that this would darken New York’s solar market, the program is actually paused strictly for upgrades.
PON 1050, the specific NYSERDA funding source that covered solar PV, was officially closed. The program previously offered a solar rebate of $1.75 per watt DC of installed capacity.
A new program, PON 2012, is in the works with NYSERDA. Enacting some useful tweaks to how applications are processed, the new program will offer a very similar rebate, most likely the same $1.75 per watt DC. NYSERDA cannot guarantee an exact dollar amount for its new incentive since the precise values truly are subject to change. However, one of our partner installers in the area has revealed that $2 million per month is allocated through 2015. The new rebate value will be based on estimated numbers of future monthly applications.
Stay tuned for future updates on NYSERDA programs on this blog, as the new program will be released soon. Also, check our NY Solar Incentives pages for more detailed information.
