The National Football League’s New England Patriots yesterday added a new feature atop Patriot Place, the team’s hall of fame.

Bob Kraft announces completion of a solar installation at Patrio Place
Kraft makes the announcement at Patriot Place in Foxboro, Massachusetts.

Patriots Owner Robert Kraft announced the completion of a 525-kilowatt (kW) solar energy system, which is spread out atop seven roofs that make up the hall. Among those in attendance were U.S. Representative Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Ian Bowles.

Kraft and his team of owners, the Kraft Group, said the installation, “will help promote practical and cost-effective commercial applications of solar power.”

Made up of 2,500 photovoltaic (PV) panels made by Evergreen Solar, the system is expected to produce 625 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity each year — an amount of energy equal to 30 percent of that consumed by Patriot Place’s shopping center and dining area.
