Here at GetSolar, we typically discuss solar PV and solar thermal (solar hot water) technologies. But every once in awhile, a new gadget demands at least a short post. Such is the case today.
Via this post from Gizmodo, I stumble upon this: a solar-powered bluetooth headset.
Before you get too excited, I should point out that the PV panel affixed to the headset doesn’t have enough umpf to meet real-time energy demands while you’re talking. Provided there’s enough daylight available, however, the technology will reportedly slowly charge the device. What’s more, the miniature solar panel enables the headset to remain indefinitely in standby mode.
As soon as I saw this clever bit of technology, I recalled Apple’s patent, which was filed last year, for “solar cells on portable devices.” Apparently the idea there may be to trap residual photons from a device’s LCD to help feed its batteries — essentially recycling light.
The solar-powered headset is made by Brando, a Hong Kong-based gadget maker.
