Last month, over 40 solar panels that had been installed on the roof of a California school went missing. Proving once and for all that they hadn’t just blown off in a freak mini-tornado or something, the panels were discovered this week in a storage locker, home to a variety of stolen goods. Only 17 of the 46 panels were recovered, unfortunately; so it seems likely that some roof, somewhere, is producing black-market clean energy.
The stolen panels represented only about 1/15th of the total installed capacity at the Little Chico Creek School, but the lack is still surely felt. Right now, the installation company in charge of the project is checking out the recovered panels to make sure they’re fit for re-install. While the police have a suspect in custody, he’s been linked only to some of the other stolen goods in the locker, and not (so far, it seems) to the panels directly.
This is a good time to remind you that you should always work with solar installers with a proven track record. At GetSolar, we will only connect you with installers who have passed our certification process, which includes a background check based partly on talks with actual former customers of the installer. Fill out this form and get started today.
And please, whatever you do, don’t buy solar panels off some guy on the street who says they fell off the back of a truck in Chinatown. Even if he offers to throw in a fake Louis Vuitton handbag for free.

Love it!
