Thin-film maker First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) is in a holding pattern over what would be a gigantic solar photovoltaic (PV) installation in Inner Mongolia, in China, via Reuters. Plans for the two-gigawatt installation are contingent on the rate paid for the facility’s output, which will be set by Chinese officials.

SunEdison on Friday announced it will partner with Weingarten Realty, a real estate investment trust (REIT), to roll out up to 10 megawatts of rooftop solar installations in Arizona and New Mexico. SunEdison, which was several months acquired by MEMC Electronic Materials (NYSE:WFR), is the biggest solar energy services provider in North America.

In related solar stocks news, MEMC will purchase Solaicx, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based company that owns low-cost technology for manufacturing monocrystalline solar wafers, via Barron’s. MEMC will acquire the privately held company for around $76 million.

Yingli Green Energy (NYSE:YGE) — the China-based solar-panel manufacturer that will power France’s largest solar installationmanaged a first-quarter profit, thanks to rising demand, via Reuters. Gross margin, notably, doubled to 33 percent.
