If you’re in Western Colorado, you now have the option of picking up your meds at the region’s first solar-powered pharmacy.
Palisade Pharmacy is a small-town business that employs fifteen. Despite its smallness, it’s making headlines for taking a big step into renewable energy. With the help of Colorado-based Syndicated Solar, Palisade has installed a 13-kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic (PV) solar energy system that is expected to offset nearly half of the pharmacy’s annual electricity consumption and save the nearly 35-year-old business approximately $2,400 in utility costs each year.
The best part? Allegedly, it didn’t cost Palisade a dime. Owner Walt Jorgenson was able to recoup all of the up-front cost of the installation within 90 days, thanks to Federal Grant 1603 and a rebate from Xcel Energy, the region’s utility service company.
