If you’re planning on heading to northern California’s wine country this weekend, be sure to check out Sonoma County’s second-annual Solar Energy and Efficiency Fair, to be held this Saturday, June 19 — which, aptly enough, happens to be National Solar Day. The admission-free event offers an opportunity for solar energy novices to learn the basics of solar technology through workshops and live speaking events featuring industry professionals. If you’re a homeowner or business owner, you’re sure to come across information to help you decide whether a solar energy system suits your needs. Or, if you’re just out to enjoy the nice weather, stop by for food, beverages and live entertainment on the fair’s solar-powered stage.

Sonoma County, California Solar Fair 2010 SignFrom 11:00 am t0 5:00 pm at the Finley Center and Park in Santa Rosa, the solar fair will have over 100 booths aimed at different renewable energy interests. There will be a “Clean Energy Zone,” where you can mingle with energy efficiency professionals who can help you save money on your monthly utility bills. A “Green Jobs Zone” will offer attendees information on solar-energy training and the opportunity to meet potential employers.

The event is hosted by Solar Sonoma County (SSC), a collection of city governments, Sonoma County citizens and local businesses aiming to promote the use of solar power in northern California. Back in March 2008, the organization set a goal of installing 25 new megawatts (MW) of solar energy within the county by 2011. According to SCC’s website, the non-profit has helped install over 11 new megawatts of solar electricity as of April 2010.
