As part of the agreement, the Red Sox home stadium Fenway Park will don Solar Blue logos, and Solar Blue will help the Red Sox find ways to put energy conservation measures into practice at the nearly century-old facility. The financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed, but the Sports Business Journal is calling it a multi-year deal and an expansion of an initial partnership that started in 2009.

The company says it will allow the billboard, one that is powered by 62 solar panels, 24 thin-film photovoltaic (PV) modules and 16 LED floodlights, to go dark when there is not enough sunlight. The other option would be to connect the billboard to grid-sourced electricity when the solar power is not enough to keep it lit.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced that will allocate $70 million in energy grants for the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). The program gives a maximum incentive of a 25 percent of a qualifying project’s cost. A loan under REAP may not exceed $25 million, and a combined loan and grant under REAP may not exceed 75 percent of the project’s cost.

Bowdoin College, the nationally known liberal arts and science college in Brunswick, Maine, has received a $50,000 grant from the state’s Public Utilities Commission to install a solar hot water system atop Bowdoin’s Thorne Hall, one of the largest water-consuming buildings on its campus.
