Thanks to an agreement between the solar panel manufacturing and installation company SunPower and Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU), the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) will have a fully operational, 6-megawatt (MW), 30-acre solar energy system by the summer of 2011.

The Greater Sandhill Solar Project, as it is called, will be built by SunPower Corporation and have a generating capacity of 17 megawatts (MW) – enough to power 6,700 average American homes for a full year.
