Design > PowerHouse: A New Kind of American Home

PowerHouse Enterprises of Lawrence puts at the center of its mission the notion that “good design should be for everyone.” The company’s principals, founder and president Quincy Vale and LEED 2.1-accredited design professional and architect John Rossi, both have years of building management and design experience under their belts. As a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and accredited with LEED-H (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Homes), PowerHouse seeks to build stylish, affordable eco-houses that don’t waste “time, material, money, and energy.”

PowerHouse’s projects include single-family homes, multi-family units, and their tiny, autonomous PowerPods, which have gained recent attention at various green design conferences around the country. No longer must we banish ourselves to the mountains of Colorado in order to live a low-energy lifestyle. We can now stay off-the-grid on Cape Cod or in the middle of Cambridge, as PowerHouse’s modular homes consist of carefully factory-manufactured pieces that can be assembled at a wide variety of locations into a building able to generate its own heat and electricity.

The PowerHouse also boasts an integration of solar, geothermal, biomass and many other technologies that can be customized into any combination, as well as a range of green materials, such as bamboo floors and recycled glass. Fully functional projects have been completed on the Cape and in Maine, and many more are planned for the days ahead.
