Urban Grid is a renewable energy company with offices in Richmond, VA and Annapolis, MD that hopes to make solar energy and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations a standard part of commercial & residential construction.

We perform design and installation services for solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, and electric vehicle charging station installations in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC.  Our services range from small residential solar installs, academic facilities, and restaurants to large companies that require significant amounts of electric supplementation as an integral part of operations.  We work with Architects and Engineers to encourage the incorporation of renewables into new construction projects and retrofits to existing buildings. We are an approved government contractor working on several State projects in Virginia.

At Urban Grid, we try to let our actions represent our ideas.  We recycle at every job site. This extends beyond daily recycling, to also include the recycling of jobsite materials. For example, we work in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity to arrange a pick up for any functioning hot water heaters when we do solar thermal replacements. By doing so, we forgo the cost of disposal, alleviate the waste in landfills, and provide the client with an additional tax deduction. As our fleet ages, we are replacing all our vehicles with biodiesel operated engines. Overall, if there’s an area of our construction practices that we can make greener, we will.

Urban Grid not only focuses on the renewable energy potential of a project, but also on the building’s envelope as well. In addition to being a renewable energy contractor, we are a Virginia Class A Building Contractor.  This partner company of Urban Grid performs everything from small renovations to LEED track new construction projects.
